Security Monitoring for Critical Infrastructures

Threat monitoring solution prototype for critical infrastructures

Nowadays almost every complex manufacturing and automatizing process is controlled by so-called PLCs. Such devices can be found in energy systems such as power stations, chemical stations or electrical stations. Although the PLCs should operate in individual networks, separated from other networks, due to issues of convenience, comfort and other aspects, they are often integrated into the corporate network, which allows for new kinds of vulnerabilities.

During the research, the CrySyS Lab of BME developed such traps that are indistinguishable from a real PLC from the attackers’ point of view, but in fact, their purpose is to detect and analyse attacks and intrusion attempts.
